Men's Basketball - Sun, Feb. 19, 2017

Lawrence, Kansas – The Haskell Men's Basketball Team hosted Grace University, Saturday night in Tony Coffin Sports Complex. 

Haskell would come out in the first 5 minutes up 15-7 over the Royals. They would increase lead as high as 17 points (33-16) in the first half till the Royals managed to make their own run. The Royals would score 13 points and hold Haskell to 7 points in the last 7 minutes of the 1st half. Haskell would head into half up 40-39. Haskell was shooting 45% from the field and 38% from the 3 point line. Haskell was led by Tsalidi Sequoyah (SR/Cherokee, NC) with 11 points. Grace University was shooting 41% from the field and 40% from the 3 point line. Grace University was led by Jarrod Sheffield with 9 points in the first half.

In the second half, the Royals would fight to take the lead up 7 points 44-51 with 12 minutes remaining. Haskell would tie the game at 55 a piece with 8 minutes remaining. Haskell would tie one last time at 65 a piece with 3 minutes left. Haskell would take the lead with a basket from Tsalidi Sequoyah and free throws from Keith Moore (JR/Fort Hall, ID). But the Royals would get the same treatment with a basket and two big free throws with in last minute of the game. With the final seconds left, Haskell had one more opportunity to tie the game with a 3 pointer but would miss and get the rebound for two points. That wouldn't be enough for the Indians, falling at home against the Royals in the final second 71-72. Haskell shot 39% from the field, 31% from the 3 point line and had 20 turnovers in the game. Grace University shot 41% from the field, 30% from the 3 point line and had 12 turnovers in the game

Haskell moves to 6-24 record for the season while Grace University moves to 15-13 record.

Haskell was led by Tsalidi Sequoyah with 20 points, 16 rebounds and 1 assist in 33 minutes. Following him were A'Ram Johnson (SO/Anadarko, OK) with 13 points and 5 rebounds in 26 minutes in the game. Joe Moudy (SR/Henryetta, OK) had 11 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists in 28 minutes.

Haskell would end the regular season at home and sent off four seniors Kelvin Nez (SR/Sanders, AZ), William Candyfire (SR/Carnegie, OK), Joe Moudy and Tsalidi Sequoyah. Thank you to all the fans and support for the Haskell Men's Basketball team.
