(Lawrence, KS) The Senior Indians took Haskell Memorial Field for one last time Saturday November 10th 2012.


This young Indian team comprised of mostly freshmen players, pushed through a grueling season against seasoned players from various schools. The Indians went into Saturday's game against Trinity Bible College with 0 wins for 2012.

The Indians ran onto the field expecting to send the senior players off with a bang, and that's just what they did.

Canku One Star, the sophomore from Rosebud, SD. put up numbers in an astounding performance.

The Indians and Trinity Bible College met head to head in the first with a score of 6-6. In the second, the Indians put 4 Touchdowns in the end-zone out-scoring the Lions 26-7. Trinity would answer back 3 more times with touchdowns and extra points, but Haskell would prevail with a final of 39-34.

One Star as quarterback completed 3 passes for 38 yards and 2 touchdowns, connecting to Senior Caleb Chaffin and Randall Battiest. One Star rushed with 376 yards making 4 touchdowns of his own.

Senior Caleb Chaffin came in with 3 points of his own with three dead-on extra point kicks.

Troy Romero, from Acoma, NM, returned for 25 yards, and Drake Stevens punted for 48.

Other rushing leaders were Chris Dupris with 37, Drake Stevens with 12, Tyler Harrison with 6, Randall Battiest with 2, and Will Wood with 1.

Lane Freeman led the defense with 8 personal tackles and 5 assisted tackles. Other Defensive leaders were Hunter Goat (5-3), Trent Bell (3-4), Dakota Berryhill (6-1), and Nash Chamberlain (2-3).

Two Indian Seniors played their last season football game at Haskell University Saturday.

Caleb Chaffin and Jesse Hammer both ran the field for one last time.

The Indians ended the 2012 season with a record of 1-8. This young team as the years progress will only get stronger as the years progress.

Haskell ranked #3 in Division I in Punt Returns Yds per Att, #20 in Opponent Penalties, #27 in Opp 4th Down Conversion, #31 in Total Sacks Against, and #38 in Sacks Against.

Lane Freeman ended the 2012 season ranked #11 for Fumbles Forced per Game, and Wilber Everett Ranks #50 in Total Interceptions.
