Park University gets the best of HINU in twin bill, 14-1 and 9-0
PARKVILLE, Mo. -- The Haskell softball team found itself on the wrong side of a doubleheader sweep Wednesday, after falling to Park University by the score of 14-1 and 9-0. With the two defeats, HINU falls to 0-23 on the season and remain 0-6 in MCAC play.
The first game lasted just five innings due to the mercy rule, with the Pirates doing the most of their damage in the first and second innings, scoring four and then eight runs respectively. PU then tacked on a run in third and fourth innings to earn their 14 runs. The Indians plate their lone runner in the top of the fifth on back-to-back doubles from LaReina Jim and Nicole Macias.
Macias took the loss for the Purple and Gold, going four innings and surrendering 12 earned runs on 19 hits, while striking out two and walking none.
The second game, HINU held Pirate bats to just nine runs as Park scored two in the first and three in the second and third innings before tacking on another in the fifth. PU allowed Haskell to muster just three hits.
Miranda Cobell started the second game for the Indians and took the loss, going two innings and surrendering three earned runs on four hits, while walking three. Kendall Calderon pitched the final two innings for her team, giving up two earned runs on five hits.
HINU will have more than a week to rest before taking to their home field again, as they play six games in three days against two conference opponents. Their homestand begins on Friday, April 13, with a doubleheader against Southwestern Christian University.
