Haskell Track and Field is finally back …. Approximately four years ago the Haskell Track and Field Program was put on hold.  A couple of years later the distance portion of Track and Field returned.  In 2011-2012, Haskell opened up the Indoor and Outdoor Seasons to include the addition of sprints, mid-distance, and throws.  Yesterday at the Emporia State Twilight Meet the Indians added long jump, triple jump, and a relay team to the track and field mix.

The Emporia State meet featured a short schedule with 15 events and an eight team field, including three NCAA programs, four NAIA institutions, and one junior college.

Highlights for Haskell included first place finishes in the 10,000 meters.  Freshman Talisa Budder (Kenwood, Okla.) completed the 25 lap race in a time of 42:47.36, while junior Thomas Zunie (Zuni, NM) took the men's top spot in a time of 35:17.92.  Budder and Zunie have already qualified for the 2012 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in the marathon.  Budder is a first time qualifier, and Zunie returns to the marathon for the third straight year.

Matt Woody (Ramah, NM), a sophomore completed the 1500 meter run in a time of 4:26.82, finishing 9th out of 16 runners.  Woody was also the Indians top thrower in the javelin with a toss of 41.10 meters (14th out of 21), with just three NAIA throwers with marks securing the 10th through 12th spots.  Junior Bryn Fragua (Jemez, NM) took the 15th place with a throw of 40.44 meters.

The Indians will return to the track with a meet scheduled for March 31, 2012 (Emporia State University Spring Open).
